Background

Good governance is one of the main components required to develop a fully democratic system in any country. The reformation in Indonesia has brought about an awareness of the need to develop good governance in Indonesia.

Good governance implementation at the national as well as regional levels of government has been a major focus of the current administration in Indonesia. However, the full development and implementation of good governance in Indonesia cannot be the responsibility of the government alone, especially to enhance policies that are supporting regional autonomy in Indonesia. This effort must be supported by the independent, non-governmental institutions committed to develop good governance at all levels.

The development of good governance, especially in terms of public services, cannot be properly done without integrally developing the regional potentials as well as sufficing the regional needs as a whole. Full awareness and understanding of all aspects related to good governance in any particular area are required in order to maintain a high level of relevance with the regions’ current and future requirements. Hence, the establishment of IGGRD is to act as the catalyst in providing good governance to Indonesia in combination with regional development.
